“As feminists we have to understand that we can be strong and badass but also take cognizance of the role we play as women”
This might seem cliche and beating the already dead horse but the movie ‘‘Black Panther” spoke to me on so many levels hence I decided to do a style tribute to the strong women of Wakanda. I am not going to go into any details about the movie so there would be no spoilers however I will touch on aspects that resonated with me.
I choose this outfit for this tribute because it reminds me of the strength and beauty of Africa. The richness of color and the love for all kinds of beauty such as Okoye’s bald head. The beauty of the bald hair resonates deeply with me because it reminds me of when I was on the creamy crack and couldn’t do without the perm however now, I cannot have enough of kinky textures that highlight my curls and I am loving it.
Furthermore, this outfit embodies my flaws as it shows certain areas I am not really in love with while on the other hand, also showcases my strengths thereby encouraging me to get over myself and make it work.
In conclusion, we might not fully get it now but Black Panther has influenced us in more ways than we will know. For me to say the least, I am prouder of the black woman I am becoming…
