So I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who has been trying to find the perfect outfit to meet her in-laws and trust me it took us over two hours and we still couldn’t find an outfit that would showcase her personality and yet still be good enough for her in-laws.
13 blog posts later and I started to think, is there anybody out there thinking about these things and making it easier for other girls? Sure there has to be a list of must have items that every girl should have in her closet especially for nerve racking occasions like visiting your in-laws for the first time.
As a typical Nigerian girl, my go to is throw Ankara on anything, it looks good and earns you coveted points in front of the parents. However, to curate a balanced wardrobe, this compilation of items will genuinely help.

A FANCY BLOUSE
The beginning of a well curated outfit starts with the top. Picking the right blouse can be tricky but don’t worry, once you know what flatters your body shape, its smooth sailing from there.
PUMPS
Shoes are the window to the feet. A beautiful shoe is not just flattering but it is an ego booster. Go ahead and be that BOSS BABE with a neutral colored pump that fits properly and isnt scuffed or tired looking.
PWD/PBD {PRETTY WHITE/BLACK DRESS}
PWD/PBD, doesn’t matter in as much as it’s pretty, stylish and not so revealing. You want your in-laws to focus on how great you are not if your girls will make an entrance anytime soon.
BLAZER
A JUMPSUIT
I will suggest going with something solid.
Too much might be too much
Plus, the upside is you can also build alot of outfits from your jumpsuit.
STRAIGHT LEG PANTS
Goes without saying but this is a perfect addition to your wardrobe to combine flawlessly with your blouses. Pants might feel masculine but a soft color balances the masculinity.
MIDI SKIRTS
Be careful as you do not want to appear frumpy. Dressing smart is the way to go. A style tip is to always balance your silhouette that is if you are wearing something tight up, wear something looser down and vice versa.
WRAP DRESS
Literally no wrong can be done in a wrap dress. It is flattering for all heights and all sizes. The perfect wrap dress for you accentuates all the best parts of your body
CO- ORD SETS
What is better than one look? Two!! With the co ord sets, all the work is done for you as you do not necessarily have to worry about style pairings and what goes with what.
A CUTE PURSE
One doesn’t have to break the bank to get a cute purse just have something that is chic with minimal hardware and neutral colored(black,white, nude) that can carry your essentials and compliment your outfits.
ACCESSORIES
The simpler the classier. Tip, gold accessories for warm skin tones and silver accessories for cold skin tones.
